Writing to be cited: the anatomy of an answer AI will quote
Answer engines don't reward the longest page. They reward the clearest, most attributable passage.
An AI answer engine is not choosing a page to rank. It is choosing a passage to quote. That single shift changes how you should write.
The passages that get cited share a shape: they answer one specific question, in one self-contained paragraph, attributed to a named expert, with no fluff to wade through first.
Structure is not the enemy of voice. The best writing for machines reads like a sharp person explaining something clearly — which is also what humans want.
